Childress Vineyards release its first wines in 2004. Our wines are crafted from
grapes grown both in the Yadkin Valley, the only federally designated American Viticultural
Area in North Carolina as well as throughout the state, from the mountains to the coast.
Over 100 acres of 12 varieties of Vitus Vinifera culivars have been planted at three vineyards:
Hampton Estates and Vineyard Crossing in the Yadkin Valley, and Gianni Vineyards near
Summerfield, NC. The terroir, which features mostly red clay and rock, western slopes,
cool mornings and intense afternoon sunlight, mimics Burgundian conditions.

lead to full-bodied, fruit forward,
smooth wines which are
consumer friendly after bottling
or good for cellaring.

The Syrah grapes feature jammy,
blackberry flavors that intensify
during "hang time."

Sangiovese grapes will be
harvested from Gianni Vineyards
by Richard's partner Greg Johns.
Gianni is Greg's family name and
winemaking is part of his Italian
heritage dating back to the old
country, starting with his grand-
father and continuing with
Greg and his father.
