Richard Childress Vineyards introduces Fine Swine Wine at Barbecue Festival

Lexington, NC – Going to the Barbecue Festival in Lexington this year? You'll find something new to serve with your barbecue sandwiches.

Fine Swine Wine.

That’s right. Wine. And, any great chef will tell you wine and pork go well together. The Europeans have been pairing the two for years!

Fine Swine Wine, produced by Childress Vineyards, has been made especially for the Barbecue Festival and will be available for the first time on Saturday, October 22, 2005. Bottles are $10 each and can be purchased at the Festival, at Childress Vineyards or the Wine & Kitchen Shop, in Lexington.

“I might have been joking with a reporter last year when I said I hoped our town might be known as the capital of swine and fine wine,” said Richard Childress, owner of Childress Vineyards and legendary NASCAR driver and team owner. “But, as we pop the cork on the first release of Fine Swine Wine, I hope this will become an annual tradition partnering with the Barbecue Festival, and our friend Bob Timberlake, to bring a little more attention to Lexington and help build tourism.”

Internationally renowned artist, Bob Timberlake, designed the label and Wright of Thomasville donated the printing of the labels.

Timberlake commented, "It's a fun idea and I'm delighted that the project happened and appreciate that my painting was used on the label. I believe the public will be pleasantly surprised at how good Fine Swine Wine is." "The semi-sweet, fruity flavor is a perfect match for hickory-smoked barbecue," explained Mark

Friszolowski, award-winning winemaker at Childress Vineyards. “It’s great to have the opportunity to make a wine that will complement the local food that has brought so much fame to the area."

Stephanie Saintsing-Gryder, Festival organizer, said, “It’s exciting to add Fine Swine Wine as a new ingredient to the Barbecue Festival celebration. The introduction of this new wine release represents what makes our city so famous – Richard Childress and Childress Vineyards, Bob Timberlake and The Bob Timberlake Gallery, our wonderful barbecue and, naturally, our Festival.”

Quantities of the wine are limited. Reservations for bottles can be made either through the Wine & Kitchen Shop in Lexington, by calling 336-249-6713 or by calling the Tasting Room at Childress Vineyards, at 336-236-9463, ext. 307. Actual purchases cannot be made until Saturday, October 22. The Wine & Kitchen Shop is located on the Square in Lexington and Childress Winery is located at the intersection of US 64 and US 52, just west of town.

Shuttles will provide transportation from the Festival to Childress Winery and the Bob Timberlake Gallery throughout the day.

A portion of the profits will go to the Mental Health Association in Davidson County.
