LEXINGTON, NC – February 8, 2010 – The North Carolina Winegrower’s Association Annual Conference was held Friday, February 5 through Sunday, February 7 at the Mariott Airport Hotel in Greensboro. The weekend included sessions on vineyard management, winemaking, and how the wine is marketed. Saturday evening featured a banquet dinner and awards presentation, in which Childress Vineyards received the North Carolina Winegrower’s Cup for their 2006 Cabernet Franc.
The Childress Cabernet Franc was actually chosen for the honor at the North Carolina State Fair Wine Competition in October of 2009, but the winery was not presented with the trophy until this past weekend. Reverberating the conference’s theme focusing on “quality,” Vineyard Manager Matt Chobanian accepted the award, announcing, “Good wine is made in the vineyard!”
Two other awards were presented at the banquet. Lillian Kroustalis, owner of Westbend Vineyards, received Member of Distinction honors. Laurel Gray Vineyards, owned by Benny and Kim Myers, was awarded the title of North Carolina Winegrower of Excellence.
