Underrated Wine Travel: North Carolina
Nobody exemplifies North Carolina's past, present and future better than Richard Childress. A former moonshine runner turned stock car driver turned NASCAR magnate, Childress has a deep love of fine wine and is committed to putting North Carolina on the map. His Childress Vineyards, housed in a Tuscan-style villa, has one of the state's best tasting rooms and some of the best wines. The 2010 Reserve Chardonnay, full of caramel and vanilla on the nose and buttery-smooth on the finish, is worth trying.
