2014 Fine Swine Wine Revealed


LEXINGTON, N.C. – SEPTEMBER 30, 2014. Two thousand and fourteen marks the tenth anniversary of Childress Vineyards and Fine Swine Wine. Fine Swine Wine is a special wine created by Winemaker Mark Friszolowski to pair perfectly with Lexington’s famous barbecue. Traditionally, Fine Swine Wine is released each year during The Annual Lexington Barbecue Festival.

The 2014 version of the Fine Swine Wine label features a pig sporting patriotic colors of red, white and blue. The pig is depicted on a weathered wood background with the letters “BBQ” proudly stenciled on its side to represent Lexington’s seasoned, world-famous barbecue heritage. Like all previous Fine Swine Wine vintages, world-renowned artist and Lexington resident, Bob Timberlake, created the artwork.

Starting October 1, shipping orders in the amount of three, six or 12 bottles will be available. The bottles are $15 each, $12 for Fast Track Wine Club members plus applicable taxes and shipping charges. As in the past, a portion of the sale proceeds is donated to the Mental Health Association of Davidson County. Wine Club members with a valid membership card may purchase Fine Swine Wine at the winery beginning October 23. The wine with commemorative label will be available to the general public during the Lexington Barbecue Festival on October 25 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the Childress Vineyards’ tent in uptown Lexington and in the winery’s Tasting Room. Quantities are limited.


In addition to the Childress Vineyards’ tent in uptown Lexington, the winery will be a participating in the Lexington Barbecue Festival’s Wine Garden hosted by the Lexington Barbecue Festival and The Tourism Recreation Investment Partnership (TRIP) for Davidson County Foundation. The Wine Garden will be located directly behind the Civic Center on Third Avenue. Tickets are $12 and may be purchased at the Wine Garden during the event. Ticket holders will receive a commemorative wine glass and vouchers to be used for wine tasting at participating wineries. Live music will be performed during tasting hours. Childress Vineyards will conduct wine tastings and sales throughout the day from 10 a.m. –6 p.m.


Business hours at Childress Vineyards will be extended on the day of the Barbecue Festival from 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Also, the Bistro will have extended lunch hours from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Our Music in the Vineyards series will be hosted from noon – 3 p.m. James Vincent, who plays a variety of Classic Rock and hits from 70’s – 90’s, will be performing. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. No outside alcohol or food please.

Parking and trolley services from the winery to uptown Lexington will be available from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Cost of transportation will be $3 per adult and $2 per child.
